This Lean Black Belt certification program provides the comprehensive subject matter to learn how to develop strategic initiatives, get buy-in from leadership, and move from strategy to implementation. Voice of customer is essential to getting the correct projects underway and moving to project completion. The black belt will learn to write a thorough whitepaper (plan) for developing lean enterprise-wide with leadership’s support. Industry experienced instructors who have worked both strategy and implementation issues present the course. Lean Black Belt Certification is from Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth will be awarded upon successful completion of coursework, test, and whitepaper project.

Who Should Attend?
This Course is designed for Black Belt candidates who are managers, project leaders, continuous improvement participants, and others who already have a certified lean green belt. We will NOT cover the topics from the Lean Yellow Belt or Lean Green Belt Courses. Participants must have a lean green belt or equivalent prior to taking this course since we will not include lean basic tools, lean methods and selection, or detailed lean metrics in this course.

Prior Projects
Prior projects are NOT required. We do require a highly-developed 8 to 12+ page whitepaper that is of significant strategic and market insight and developed for use at your current organization. -
Course Format

The course includes:
- 10 (4-hour) days and 1 (2-hour) day of live online training. The format of the live online training is lecture, discussion, and activities. All training is WebEx delivered by a qualified instructor. All sessions will be recorded and available for download for those that miss a session, and for review and historical reference. Formal lecture stops at the end of day 11 and rejoins for whitepaper presentations after approximately 30 days.

Course Deliverables
- Complete homework assignments from the book, Leadership’s Broken Link
- Participants will complete an 8 to 12+ page (1.15 line spacing, 1-inch margins) whitepaper based upon the book “Leadership’s Broken Link.” Participants have 30 days from the end of lectures to develop the whitepaper and presentation PPTs. The whitepaper will be delivered to the appropriate instructor per later supplied directions. Whitepaper is pass/fail basis.
- Class will resume after the 30 day whitepaper development hiatus; participant will present the whitepaper through PPTs that they individually develop – 1 hour Live Online Format for presentation with a 0.5 hour question and answer from other participants and the instructor, presentation is pass/fail basis.
- Participants will complete a test (about 16 hours of take home work open book, open notes) to demonstrate the knowledge gained in this course, and knowledge of lean topics from prior their green belt experience. Participants must pass the test which is take home; you will have 10 business days after the end of the class to complete it.
